Color Theory: Painting

What We Did

This was a student led lesson on color theory. We learned about different aspects of the color. He also integrated the scientific method into his lesson. We had to put construction paper into a shoe box and then add yellow and red paint, blue and red paint, and then three colors of our choice. He then instructed us to shake the box to create splatter paintings. We had to write a hypothesis about what would happen when we shook up the box. Then we would write observations for each trial. After we did all three trials we had to cut out pieces from our splatter paintings and make a display of them. Here is mine:

Extension Activity

After completing the pieces students could go on a gallery walk. Each student could have their display set up around different parts of the room. Students can use sticky notes to critique all of the art works around the room. They could leave 2 strengths and one growth on each painting. After the gallery walk is over students will read their feedback. This will help strengthen students critiquing ability. It is also a good way to refresh or explain how an art critique should go.
